Web Design- Best Practices & Favorite Links

Website 1) http://www.nvcc.edu/home/ataormina/wdc/readings/convention.htm

Points Discussed:
 - fast loading page
-balance between content and style, telling and showing
- balanced relationship between words and graphics
-With graphics, less is more.
-White space is important and necessary.
-Use bookmarks/targets at the top of a long file to help users navigate through it.

Website 2) http://netaccountant.net/website-design-for-accountants/web-design-conventions/

Points Discussed :
 -  logo at the top
-logo linkage to home page
-navigation stand out and consistent through out the site
-visitors can search cite
-make form fields easily click able

Website 3)   http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/design/20-reasons-your-design-sucks-1/

Points Discussed:
- balance
-no bevel and emboss
-no distracting backgrounds
-lack of detail is bad
-white space is good
-no music
-know when to use tables

Website 4) http://designbit.co.uk/2009/02/27/design-with-web-conventions/

Points Discussed:

-hyperlinks
-large heading
-logo should link to hompage
-use buttons
-have a search engine

Website 5) http://www.noupe.com/how-tos/7-key-principles-that-make-a-web-design-look-good.html

Points Discussed:
- balance
-grids
-colors: pick base colors
-graphics: know what kinds of graphics and how you use them. You don't need fancy graphics but you don't want a poor graphic because it will hurt the website.
-white space: can make elements stand out by adding white space around them.
-Connection: this means that the ideal web design has to have both unity and consistency

Favorite Websites:
https://www.facebook.com/
http://pinterest.com/
http://www.youtube.com/

- All three of these websites are very plain. They have a lot of white space. The fonts are just the correct size and easy to read. The logo links to the homepage just like the sources said. These website also have fast search engines at the top of the page. They also have a very good balance and colors that are not distraction to the public.

My Animation: Christmas Eve

My favorite animation was the animated shape Gif because it was the simplest and easiest way. In this form, someone can be creative and just "experiment." You can make something you don't like and you can just "erase" it or start over again. It's like drawing.

I wanted my animation to be something about the Christmas holiday spirit. My animation takes place on Christmas Eve. Two people are walking towards a Christmas tree at night. I didn't make much of a plan before doing this. I was kinda just messing with shapes when the idea came to mind.

How To Video

How To Do A Braid Bun!

https://vimeo.com/51003912

Sarah Spurger helped me film and edit my video.

We didn't have any problems while filming. Unfortunately though, I lost my voice last week, therefore, I wasn't able to do a voice over my video. There is no talking during the video, just music. I explained how to do everything my putting in text. I think my video would have been better if I would have been able to speak. Sorry. The second problem that I also face during the process of editing this video was that Sarah and I weren't able to mute the sound of when we filmed the video.

Another problem, I, myself, ran into was when I was uploading my video to Vimeo. I wasn't able to upload my video to my vimeo. I had some difficulties. So I uploaded my video to my friends, Sarah Spurger, Vimeo.

Animated Or Video

After watching the Ted talk and the animated video from Steven Johnson's book, I think that the most effective type of medium was the animated video. I think this because the animated video was more illustrated and somewhat more descriptive. Yes, the Ted talk had more information given but the animated video was easier to understand the point. And a lot of our society now is more of a visual learner than an audio learner.

Our video is based upon the show Dora The Explorer and Go, Diego Go. In our video, Dora and Diego are looking for the Cupcake Oasis. Dora is pregnant and wants a cupcake. Unfortunately, Diego has eaten the last cupcake they had. Diego points out that there is a cupcake oasis near. They pull out the map to get help on how to get there. Unfortunately, the map was no help at all. In the end, Dora and Diego find out that the cupcake oasis is right in front of them. Dora walks away mad and Diego follows.

My contribution to the team and video was that I helped edit and played Dora in the video.

Filters

Neon Glow Filter: I liked this filter because it showed the dark features of the picture. The colors emphasized more on the hair and eyes.
Diffuse Glow Filter: I liked this filter because what caught my eye was the brightness in the eyes.
Chalk & Charcoal Filter: This filter was personally my favorite because it was more than just a picture to me,there was meaning behind the colors used. It represented a girl that was going through a lot in life. I could relate to this meaning just like many other people.

Class Goals

My expectations and goals during the fall semester in IMED 1291-  8865 are to learn more about Photoshop, video, and web. I've always been interesting in these topics but I have never been that good with technology. I hope that during the fall semester I'll learn how to work these "apps" in order to use them for my senior project.
